All of these featured collections have the same feminine, sensual dressing that I'm wanting for spring but delivered in an entirely different way:
At Thakoon, extremely girly dresses are given a definite grown-up edge with strapping and unexpected tailoring. I'm in love with the blazer over the gauzy dress...it's a traditional spring look but thanks to the details, it's got this amazing twist that makes it unique.
Derek Lam's collection was 70's-California-girl gold. Though the clothes are of the minimalist strain, the cuts were very relaxed (not the sharp, masculine tailoring that has been de rigueur for minimalist designers as of late) and the earthy colours are stunning, making this probably the most wearable collection for lots of women this year.
There were a few misses mixed in with the hits in Prabal Gurung's collection, but the pieces that were hits were amazing. As some of you may know, I generally gravitate towards bright colours, so obviously I'm absolutely in love with the colour palette in this collection. The saffrons, sky blues, and corals are gorgeous and definitely help this collection stand out among the icy blues and whites that most of the other collections featured (not that I didn't love those palettes too...but this is definitely something different!). Loving the colour block technique that was used extensively throughout the collection too, very Balenciaga to me (which is always a good thing).
Preen had a lot more clean, fluid lines, but the colours were gorgeous and extremely feminine (one of those icy blue and white palettes I mentioned above!), and I'm loving the pattern in that strapless dress that they used throughout the collection. Up there with Derek Lam for sure in terms of the wearability factor.
Can't believe tomorrow is the last day of NYFW! Went by in a flash, and even though I wasn't there, I felt like I was part of the party to a certain extent thanks to the blogosphere. Can't wait to see what stops are pulled out in the next couple days as the week wraps up!
